A sad ending to a great season!

So, Jay and I are serious super seniors when it comes to PGHS football. We attended all but one home games this season and are sad that last night it ended... it was a serious heart-breaker. All the details are below, but pretty much we lost with 1.2 seconds left on the clock... it was so sad. I guess there is always next year...

Vikings fall to Syracuse in 5A quarterfianals on last-second touchdown

The Syracuse Titans scored the game-winning touchdown with no time remaining to dash the Pleasant Grove Vikings title hopes 27-25 on Friday in the 5A playoffs. The Titans took the ball on their own 20 yard line with 2:14 left on the clock and trailing by four points. Syracuse drove 72 yards in two minutes and found itself on the 8-yard line with 1.2 seconds remaining.
That is when Titan quarterbackBraden Hamblin found his tight end Rick Reardon in the end zone and broke the hearts of the Pleasant Grove faithful.
"None of us were prepared to lose," Viking coach Dale Sampson said. "It was just one of those great football games that comes down to one play."
Hamblin passed for 168 yards and the Titans had 216 yards on the ground.
Viking Quarterback Dallas Lloyd was 9-for-16 with 230 yards passing, but Pleasant Grove only had 92 rushing yards.
The Vikings came into the game 10-1 and Region 4 champions. Syracuse finished second in Region 1.
"This is a great group of kids," Sampson said. "They've won three region titles, the seniors, and they wanted more."
Pleasant Grove started the scoring with a field goal from Josue Meza late in the first quarter.
But, it was the Titans that found the end zone first.
After a 43 yard hook up with Tanner Russell, Hamblin found tight end Rick Reardon for a seven yard touchdown. It would be a common theme in the game as the pair hooked up three times for scores.
The Vikings responded by going three-and-out on their next possession.
Syracuse, however, did not waste their next chance. Hamblin found Reardon again for a two yard strike.
Pleasant Grove went three-and-out again to start the second half.
Syracuse capped a run heavy drive with a four yard touchdown from Hamblin.
The Vikings wasted no time getting themselves back in the game. They scored on the second play of their next drive. After a triple reverse and throw didn't quite work, Lloyd found Joey Owens for an 80 yard score.
Energized by the touchdown, the Pleasant Grove defense started to come alive in the third. The Vikings held the Titans to two failed field goal attempts and a punt on their next three possessions.
"They did give us a lot of different looks and little wrinkles," Titan coach Russ Jones said. "They did a great job of executing and they just came after us."
Sean Stevenson scored a 25 yard touchdown for the Vikings and Lloyd followed it by running in for the two-point conversion.
Still trailing 18-21, Lloyd put the Vikings on top with a 31 yard strike to Marshall Nielson with 2:14 on the clock.
Perhaps the Vikings left too much time on the clock.
"They were able to convert," Sampson said of how the Titans were able to drive the ball in the closing moments of the game. "We thought the clock was working for us. They got within striking distance and made a great play. It was just one of those games."
