Our father, George William Dearing left this earth on Monday April 27, 2009, of natural causes.
George was born to Roy Christopher and Myrtle (Hickman) Dearing on February 22, 1922, in Torrey, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings, and his beloved son, Arthur Christopher.
He was a WWII Army veteran, serving in the AAA 389th Battalion. George was proud of his military service and considered it an honor to serve his country. Standing and saluting the flag was always a privilege.
George married Bernice Newell on October 28, 1948, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions throughout his life. Some of his callings were a fulltime mission to Nauvoo, Illinois, with his sweetheart Bernice, branch president, bishopric counselor, High Priest Group Leader, Young Men's leader working with the Scouts and a home teacher.
He retired after a life-long employment with Mountain Bell Telephone doing telephone installation and repair. He was a creative handyman and jack-of-all-trades. He had a fabulous garden that he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. He received Blue ribbon recognition for his walnuts.
George is survived by his wife Bernice; sisters Francis Boden (Choctaw, OK) and Myrtle Jones (W. Valley, UT); three daughters Roylene (Douglas) Weight (Pleasant Grove, UT), Cindy (Brent) Johansen (Blanding, UT), Tammara (Joseph) Eaton (Pleasant Grove, UT) and one daughter-in-law Karen Holt Dearing (Brigham City, UT); two sisters-in-law and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to Dr. Sean Curzon and his terrific nurse, Susan. They always brought a smile to grandpa's face and encouraged him to eat all the chocolate that he wanted.
Funeral services will begin Monday at 11:00 am May 4, 2009, at the Orem Geneva Heights 8th Ward 546 N 500 W, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6-8 pm, May 3, 2009, at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 S State, Orem, Utah. An additional viewing will also be held at the church Monday from 9:45-10:45 am May 4, 2009, prior to the funeral services .
The sun rose this morning on a world with one less hero, one less example of how men should live their lives. But with this sunrise came a reminder to all who knew George Dearing of what we should strive to become in this life; humble, honorable, hard-working, loving, tender and kind. We love you daddy and grandpa.
